Nucor eyes more expansion after current $4B capital spending plan, though layoffs may loom

Charlotte-based Nucor reported net earnings for shareholders of $193.4 million, or 63 cents per diluted share, on net sales of $4.93 billion in the third quarter. That compares with earnings of $275 million, or 90 cents per diluted share, on sales of $5.46 billion in the same quarter a year ago.
