Eastland proposal calls for $50 million in taxpayer funding, focus on MLS youth academy

City and county taxpayers would kick in as much as $54 million toward reviving an 80-acre abandoned mall site on Charlotte’s east side as part of a refined proposal unveiled Monday. The pitch requires City Council approval, with a vote anticipated on Nov. 9. Mecklenburg County commissioners would also have to approve their portion, estimated at $13 million to $15 million.
