Novant Health is the frontrunner in a bid to expand its footprint in eastern North Carolina. Winston-Salem's Novant has been recommended for a partnership with New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. It was one of three finalists. The others were Charlotte-based Atrium Health and Duke Health of Durham. Carl Armato, CEO of Novant, called the two "natural partners" with matching values.
