Meck voters reject tax hike for arts and parks

A proposed sales tax increase in Mecklenburg County lost on Tuesday night by a decisive margin for the second time since 2014. The tax was earmarked for arts and culture grants, construction of parks and greenways, and as a supplement for public school teachers. Voters rejected the quarter-cent tax hike by a 14-point margin, 57% to 43%. That translates to 69,000 people opposing the increase and 51,000 supporting it.
