Ten years before it became the home of a 22-story hotel building, with an independent rooftop lounge, the rooftop of uptown’s EpiCentre was left in a mess. The original developer, who controlled the air rights above the restaurant, bar and retail center, shelved a 48-story condo project. All that was left was exposed concrete and steel and little prospect for much in the way of second-chance recovery during the Great Recession.
