Big money, grassroots opposition square off in Mecklenburg County sales tax campaign

Finance filings this week showed former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl Jr. steered the largest contribution to the committee charged with rallying support for a tax increase benefiting the arts and other civic causes. And on Wednesday, McColl told CBJ he’s optimistic the investment will pay off with a victory on Election Day.
