
A new study says North Carolina gained 70,501 immigrants from 2010 to 2016. The new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies of recently released U.S. Census data finds that the nation's immigrant population (legal and illegal) hit a record 43.7 million in 2016. The data also shows more than 16.6 million U.S.-born minor children with an immigrant parent. Immigrants and their young children thus now account for nearly one in five U.S. residents.
