Don’t count out South Carolina — as well as North Carolina — as contenders for the $1.6 billion Toyota-Mazda electric car plant. Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) and Mazda Motor Corp. (OTC: MZDAY) announced last week that they planned a U.S. plant that would employ 4,000. North Carolina, which has no car assembly plants, was mentioned first as a possible site.
