Gov. Roy Cooper recently signed two bills that regulate the use of unmanned aircraft – also known as drones. House Bill 337 revises existing state drone laws, changing the language so that the regulations apply to model aircraft. House Bill 128 prohibits drone use near prisons, defining “near” as a horizontal distance of 500 feet or a vertical distance of 250 feet. Both measures go into effect Dec. 1.
