Heavy rains cause stormwater from Duke Energy plant coal pile to spill into the Broad River

Duke Energy says that heavy rains on Tuesday caused up to 50,000 gallons of stormwater to run off a coal pile at the Roger Energy Complex (formerly called the Cliffside Steam Station) in Rutherford County into the Broad River. The company says the stormwater contained no coal ash — in fact never came in contact with any coal ash.
