Duke Energy sees record summertime demand in the Carolinas

An extended heat wave in the Southeast sent electricty demand to a new record for Duke Energy Carolinas in the Carolinas, surpassing a nine-year old record. On July 27, the peak demand reached 20,671 megawatt-hours of electricity for the hour ending at 5 p.m. The previous summertime record had been 20,628 megawatts-hours, set on Aug. 8, 2007. “We have sufficient supplies of electricity to meet our customers’ needs, and our technicians are working around the clock to ensure smooth operations…
