Teen's death linked to rare brain-eating amoeba at Whitewater Center

An Ohio teen has died after contracting a rare brain-eating amoeba, possibly at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, health officials say. Meckleburg County and N.C. health officials were notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the 18-year-old’s death is suspected to be from an amoeba naturally present in warm lakes during the summer.
