CDC: Whitewater center’s treatment systems ‘inadequate’ to eliminate rare amoeba

All 11 environmental samples taken from the U.S. National Whitewater Center have tested positive for Naegleria fowleri, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And, steps the facility took to treat its water were ‘inadequate’ to inactivate that organism, says Dr. Jennifer Cope, a medical epidemiologist with the CDC.
