Regulators cite Duke Energy for leaks from coal-ash ponds at 13th N.C. plant site

N.C. regulators issued notice to Duke Energy late Friday afternoon that it has violated state environmental regulations by allowing coal-ash contamination to seep from a 13th coal plant site. They say Duke is subject to fines of up to $10,000 per violation for allowing contamination to leak from ash-ponds at the Riverbend Steam Station in Gaston County into Mountain Island Lake.
